About the
Project

This DECATHLON Mega Store in Cologne is Germany’s largest DECATHLON location, encompassing approximately 8,500 m² of retail space.

Architecturally, it combines a linear, two-level layout with clear zoning by sport and activity, integrating interactive test areas—such as climbing walls, golf simulators, cycling and running tracks—directly into the retail environment.

The
Result

Anchors and specialty zones like the Van Rysel Shop‑in‑Shop and camping showroom create layered spatial identities, while wide aisles, glazed façades, and visual sightlines ensure intuitive navigation and openness.

The design seamlessly merges operational efficiency with experiential retail, embedding workshops, service areas, and interactive zones without disrupting circulation. By blending retail, sport, and lifestyle experiences, the store functions not only as a shopping destination but also as a participatory sports hub, enhancing customer engagement, dwell time, and brand loyalty.

In essence, the architecture transforms a conventional megastore into a dynamic, immersive, and highly functional sports environment.
