About the
Project

The school forms part of the overall complex of the Community Elementary School - Riphanstraße, which was constructed in 1974 using solid reinforced concrete construction.

The complex consists of a four-story building housing classrooms and administration, an adjoining single-story building with classrooms and multipurpose rooms, and a covered circulation walkway connecting the toilet building, the sports hall, and the caretaker’s residence to the main school building.

The
Result

The four-story classroom building originally lacked the required second structural means of escape. Both the building fabric and the technical building services largely dated back to the 1970s. The comprehensive refurbishment aimed to significantly improve the building’s energy performance and overall structural condition.

As part of the project, four multipurpose rooms in the basement were converted into well-daylit classrooms. Circulation areas were reorganized to provide natural ventilation and daylight, and the construction of two new staircases established the required two means of escape. In addition, an elevator was installed in a central location to ensure barrier-free access.
